Online and in-person counselling in Gloucestershire
About therapy
Have you lost your spark? Perhaps you feel a need to make changes in your life but are unsure where or how to start? Are you struggling with difficult feelings or with regrets about the choices you have made in life? Are you grieving the loss of a friend or family member, or the grief of involuntary childlessness? Is a lack of confidence or self-worth hindering your progress in creative projects or decision-making? Maybe you are struggling with anxiety, or a persistent low mood. Maybe it’s several or even none of the above, but something is troubling you and you want to address it rather than keep looking the other way. Are you considering a period of therapy to look at how you got to where you currently are, and how you want to move forward in your life?
Therapy can offer you the space to work through difficult feelings, to process thoughts and feelings about a specific event, or to spend a longer period of time getting to know yourself better and understand where patterns of thought and behaviour might come from, and how you can begin to shape these to derive more satisfaction and enjoyment from life.
About me
My name is Rachel Musson and I am a qualified registered counsellor working online and in-person in Gloucestershire, UK. Prior to working as a therapist I worked in the arts and in education, and hold qualifications in music, and in education and special needs with a specialism in autism.
I am committed to an inclusive and anti-oppressive practice, and I have worked with clients of all ages and backgrounds. That said, I understand that as a client you may want to know a little about the experience I bring to the therapeutic space. As well as private practice, I currently work for an NHS staff counselling service, and have previously offered therapy in placements such as an alcohol and drug rehabilitation service and arts-based higher education institutes. I do have a special interest in working with people in the creative industries and with women and men facing the challenges of being either childless and childfree, and my previous experience in education means I have particular insight into the challenges of parents who are raising children with special educational needs.

Practicalities
Online:
Sessions are 50 minutes long and usually take place at the same time weekly. If you have a working pattern (e.g. NHS shift work) that would make this difficult then do let me know. I conduct online sessions via Zoom. I charge £50 for online sessions. I allocate a proportion of my sessions to reduced rate therapy for people who are unable to afford the full fee. There is usually limited availability/wait list for these, but do enquire if you are unable to afford the full fee. If you would like to know more about what it would be like to come for counselling with me, drop me an email and I will suggest some times for us to have a 30 minute online conversation. This will allow me to answer any questions you may have, and will give me a chance to find out a little more about you.
In person
I offer in-person sessions in Cheltenham at The Practice Rooms, GL50 1JP on Wednesdays and at the Tashi Centre in Dursley on Thursdays.
Sessions are 50 minutes long and my fee is £55 per session.
I suggest a 15-30 minute phone or video call before our first session. This will allow me to answer any questions you may have, and will give me a chance to find out a little more about you.
Take your next step
It can be difficult reaching out to begin therapy. I offer an introductory call free of charge for up to 30 minutes online or on the phone where we can get to know each other a little, and I can answer any questions you may have.
